Student Spotlight: Mohammed Alnahari

rakan11

This is another in our Student Spotlight series, where our students tell their stories in their own words.

I am Mohammed Alnahari, originally from Aden, Yemen, and my journey has been one of dedication and perseverance made possible by the invaluable support of the Hadhramout Foundation. Today, I proudly work as a consulting engineer specializing in construction and infrastructure in Connecticut, USA. In addition, I serve as an adjunct professor at the University of Hartford, where I share my knowledge and experiences with the next generation of engineers. However, this journey was far from easy, and it would not have been possible without the Foundation's unwavering support.

Growing up in Yemen, I always aspired to excel in education. My father, who did not have the chance to complete his college education, made a promise that his children would achieve what he could not. His dream became our family's mission, and all of my siblings and I have pursued higher education, with each of us earning one or more degrees. My sister is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Business Administration, one of my brothers earned a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, another sister completed her degree in Pharmacy, and another brother pursued a Bachelor’s in Manufacturing Engineering. I also have a younger sister currently pursuing dual Bachelor’s degrees in IT and Health Management. This collective commitment to education is a testament to my father’s vision and our family’s determination to overcome challenges.

I completed my Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from King Saud University, followed by a Master’s and Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, and Sustainable Engineering at Arizona State University. These accomplishments stemmed not only from my dedication but also from the critical support provided by the Hadhramout Foundation. Their scholarship opened doors for me that would otherwise have remained closed, allowing me to focus on my studies and achieve my potential.

The Hadhramout Foundation’s impact extends beyond me. My story is one of many, and their support has transformed the lives of countless Yemeni students who, like me, faced significant challenges in pursuing their education. The Foundation’s vision and commitment have given us the tools to contribute meaningfully to our families, communities, and beyond.

As a professional engineer, I am now actively involved in projects that rehabilitate and manage critical infrastructure, ensuring safety and sustainability in communities. In my role as an adjunct professor, I strive to inspire my students by fostering their curiosity and commitment to learning. This dual role fulfills my dream of contributing to both the professional and academic worlds, providing a foundation for future generations to thrive.

Through my journey, I have learned the value of giving back: while Yemen currently faces immense challenges, I am committed to one day returning to contribute to its recovery and development. For now, I have chosen to give back to the country where I currently live and study. In the USA, I have the opportunity to apply my knowledge to benefit local communities and students, but my ultimate hope is to one day give back to Yemen, helping rebuild and support a brighter future for my homeland.

Yemen faces significant challenges, and education is the cornerstone of its recovery and development. Professors equipped with strong knowledge and experience are essential to building a brighter future for the country. My education has prepared me to take on this responsibility, and I am committed to giving back to Yemen in every way I can.

Reflecting on my journey, I am reminded of the countless students in Yemen who have the potential to achieve great things but lack the means to do so. The financial aid and opportunities provided by the Hadhramout Foundation are not just scholarships; they are lifelines that empower individuals to break barriers and create lasting change.

The Foundation’s work is more than support; it is an investment in the future of Yemen. Through education, it transforms lives, uplifts communities, and builds hope for a better tomorrow. I am profoundly grateful for their support, and I carry their mission forward in everything I do. To those considering supporting the Hadhramout Foundation, I can say with certainty that your contributions will change lives. They changed mine, and for that, I will forever be grateful.
